Link to Jillaine's Interview on the Doug Stephan's Good Day Show!

If you missed my artist interview to promote Jazzy Christmas to You III on the Doug Stephan's Good Day Show this morning, no need to fret! Christmas miracles--and archived audio--do exist!

You can listen to the archived interview here. I don't think it will stay at the top, so just scroll down until you find "Christmas Star of the Day - Jillaine."

I enjoyed being on the show and talking about Jazzy Christmas to You III, starting my own jazz record label  (Jillaine Records) with Erik (my brother), and choosing to go to law school! Doug Stephan was great to talk with! And I loved being able to be on radio again! It has been since August that I was on the air. During the Christmas break I'll be joining Chris Farber on Y105 again for the weekday morning show 7:00-10:00 a.m. CST, so stay tuned!

I've been promoting Jazzy Christmas to You III a lot, but I also have two other Christmas CDs: Jazzy Christmas to You! and Jazzy Christmas to You II. Today it was really cold and so icy that school was canceled in my hometown in Iowa. So check out "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" from last year's Christmas CD Jazzy Christmas to You II.

And don't forget, you can still get a free download of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" at jillaine.com/JCTY3!

Hot Apple Juice: I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm

Hot apple juice is a great way to warm up during the cold weather months!  And it is always good to be warm inside and out!

So check out "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" sung by Dean Martin.

Ham and Noodles: Keep Me Warm

My favorite comfort dish is ham and noodles.  Pasta is a favorite food in the family and I love white sauces of all kinds.  So just add a little ham and voila!  You have the best dish ever invented!

I needed a little "comfort" after my second day of law school.  I'm in for quite a learning curve, but it is exciting!

When I think "comfort," I immediately think of warmth--which leads me to Ella Fitzgerald singing "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm!"

HAM AND NOODLES
12 ounces wide noodles
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon flour
2 cups ham, diced
2 cups skim milk

  1. Cook noodles a minute less than the directions call for, drain and return to pan.
  2. Melt butter in a sauce pan, add flour just as it melts and remove from burner.
  3. Put diced ham in the sauce pan and stir to coat with butter and flour.
  4. In microwavable container, warm milk for 2 minutes on high.
  5. Put ham mixture on noodles and stir gently.
  6. Add milk, stir over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from burner, cover.  Let sit for 5 minutes.  Serve.

Warm and Serve: Love

I love to make food from scratch, but occasionally I find a special food item that comes from a box or the freezer that I absolutely love.  Sister Schubert's Dinner Yeast Rolls are one of those great "store bought" items!

They are just so tasty.  And in just six or seven minutes I can have a flaky roll that is warm and ready to eat right out of the oven!

Even though it's warm outside and there's not a snowflake in sight today, these freezer "warm and serve" rolls make me think of "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" sung by Dean Martin.  I've highlighted the song before when it was cold outside, but it's such a classic song it needs another go-round when it's warm outside because there is always room in my day for love and yummy rolls!

Snow Days

I love snow.  I grew up with snow.  I was born in February with snow.  I just love snow!

So it was great that today it snowed a new layer of snow to cover our Christmas snow!

To me, even though the "snow is snowing,...I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm!"

Birthday, Voice Tracking, Internship

Today is my brother, Erik's, birthday! He is 24. We celebrated by mixing I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm on our upcoming Christmas album Jazzy Christmas To You II! (Check out Jazzy Christmas To You! on iTunes.) We also voice tracked O Come, O Come Emmanuel and While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night yesterday!

Okay, so maybe that wasn't actually part of the festivities...but we did have a fun breakfast of German Pancakes (an oven soufflĂ© dish, click here for a recipe that's similar to ours), presents (of course), Dairy Queen ice cream cake (a Chaston tradition), birthday signs all over the house recounting his accomplishments and activities during the previous year, game playing, and movie watching. All in all, a pretty sweet birthday!  (We had Happy Joe's Taco Pizza yesterday to kick off the day's celebration!)

A highlight birthday present for Erik was an orange label LP first edition release of Chicago's first album when they called themselves Chicago Transit Authority--a title that the CTA required them to discontinue using, hence the band name simply being Chicago!

I only have two days left of my internship at Y105. I am really going to miss being on-air with Chris Farber on the Y105 Wake-Up! I have absolutely loved interning with Cumulus again (I interned last summer, too)!

After doing the "Olympic Moment" during the Olympics on the morning show, I started doing a "Back-to-School Tidbit." I love researching for the spot! Tomorrow, I'm going to talk about safety tips for college students and their parents. Tune in at 9:50 a.m. CST on Y105.

More tomorrow!
