Jillaine Performance 9/10/2010 for BYU Fall Fest!

On Friday, September 10 from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Jillaine and her band will perform original rock songs and favorites from the 70s for the BYU Fall Fest in the Terrace of the Wilkinson Student Center on BYU campus, Provo, UT. It's going to be one sweet song set!

Included in the set is fan favorite "You Lied" by Jillaine's brother, Erik, and perennial favorites "I Will Survive" (sung by Gloria Gaynor) and Little Eva's and Grand Funk Railroad's "Locomotion."

The band: Ryan Flores, drums; James Archibald, bass; Craig Alder, keys and acoustic guitar. Back after a two-year absence is Curtis Smith, electric guitar!

The event is free with a BYU ID for the ID holder and one guest. Fall Fest begins at 7:00 p.m. so stay for the great music at the end! There will be games, a dance, other live bands, a best 70s costume contest and--believe it or not--a best mustache contest!

Come in 70s dress by yourself, with a date or with a group of friends and enjoy an evening of great fun and incredible live music from Provo's own Jillaine!

Guest singer is a hit at his birthday party!

This Friday (7/10) we played a private birthday party in Kaysville. Everything went well-- especially the live recording of the event. (More on that later.) We played a pretty wide set of songs: standards, originals, everything in between, and even "Happy Birthday." But it wasn't until the band brought on a "guest artist" that things got really interesting.

The lady organizing the party contacted me before hand and told me that the "birthday boy" (Doug Jones) was an avid karaoke enthusiast and asked if we could prepare a few of his favorite tunes in case he wanted to sing a few at his party. After we had played most of our set, we invited him on stage and he sang with us. After playing "Born to Be Wild" and several other rock standards (it turns out no one actually knew ALL the lyrics to "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream), Doug decided it was time to sing the Latin jazz standard "The Girl From Ipanema." I am not usually a big fan of singing bossa nova, but I survived well. The song ends with the line "And when she walks, he smiles/but she doesn't see..." At this point Doug added an emphatic "...CUZ SHE'S BLIND!!" and on the second time an even more enthusiastic, "REALLY BLIND!" Needless to say, our guest singer was entertaining and hilarious!

We played into the night closing with "Chameleon." There are photos on Facebook). I hope to see you at my next performance!

UVU Jazz Ensemble

I sang "Orange Colored Sky" with the Utah Valley University Jazz Ensemble.  The band sounded wonderful and the audience was very responsive. Mike Tobian, the director, is definitely the best band director I have ever worked with.  Check out the pictures from the performance on the photos page of my website.
